My name is Gilles Evrard Essuman, though most people who know me call me Kevy. The name came together naturally: K from Kofi, my Ghanaian name; evy from Evrard, my middle name. Two letters each, two origins, one name.
I was born in Ghana, grew up across Ivory Coast and France, and now live in Luxembourg. That kind of itinerary, moving between cultures, languages, and systems from an early age, leaves a mark. I think it is where my instinct for working across boundaries comes from. I have always been more comfortable at the intersections than anywhere else.
That is where my work lives. I am an action-researcher by training and a practitioner by instinct. With a doctorate in Economic Geography from the University of Luxembourg, I study social innovation and socio-territorial transformation: how communities develop alternatives, how territories change, how people organise themselves differently when the usual options run out. At LISER, I lead work packages on living labs and citizen science for urban regeneration. In parallel, I run RESOPA, an NGO I founded in 2018, through which I have designed and coordinated over €1M in EU-funded projects across 20 countries, rooted in youth work, community empowerment, and learning that happens when people trust each other enough to try something together.
I also teach. Design thinking, social and solidarity economy, innovation for local development. Teaching is where I find out whether I actually understand something. If I can explain it to a room of people who didn't ask to be there, I probably do. If I can't, I go back.

Je m'appelle Gilles Evrard Essuman, mais la plupart des gens qui me connaissent m'appellent Kevy. Le nom s'est formé naturellement : K de Kofi, mon prénom ghanéen ; evy d'Evrard, mon deuxième prénom. Deux lettres chacun, deux origines, un seul nom.
Je suis né au Ghana, j'ai grandi entre la Côte d'Ivoire et la France, et je vis aujourd'hui au Luxembourg. Ce type de parcours, naviguer entre cultures, langues et systèmes dès le plus jeune âge, laisse des traces. Je pense que c'est là que vient mon instinct pour travailler aux carrefours. Je me suis toujours senti plus à l'aise aux intersections qu'ailleurs.
C'est là que vit mon travail. Je suis chercheur-acteur par formation et praticien par instinct. Docteur en Géographie Économique de l'Université du Luxembourg, j'étudie l'innovation sociale et les processus de transformation socio-territoriale : comment les communautés développent des alternatives, comment les territoires changent, comment les gens s'organisent autrement quand les options habituelles s'épuisent. Au LISER, je pilote des lots de travaux sur les living labs et les sciences citoyennes pour la régénération urbaine. En parallèle, je dirige RESOPA, une ONG fondée en 2018, à travers laquelle j'ai conçu et coordonné plus d'1 M€ de projets européens dans 20 pays, ancrés dans le travail de jeunesse, l'autonomisation communautaire, et l'apprentissage qui se produit quand les gens se font suffisamment confiance pour essayer quelque chose ensemble.
J'enseigne aussi. Le design thinking, l'économie sociale et solidaire, l'innovation pour le développement local. L'enseignement est l'endroit où je découvre si je comprends vraiment quelque chose. Si je peux l'expliquer à une salle de personnes qui n'ont pas demandé à être là, c'est probablement le cas. Sinon, je retourne au travail.
